Havana, Cuba, 23 June 2018
HAPE celebrated its second birthday in the Castillo De Los Jardines de La Tropical with some very special guests!
Mista Savona, one of the top exponents of reggae music in Australia and mastermind behind the Havana Meets Kingston project, a unique encounter between Cuban and Jamaican musicians. He was accompanied by Brenda Navarrette’s powerful percussion and singing.
Poirier, representing the vibrant and diverse dance music scene of Montreal, Canada, came to Havana for a round of production workshops co-hosted with Guampara Productions and 2 knee-jerking gigs breaking the boundaries of geography and musical genres.
Together with HAPE Collective’s DJs, Ben and Landeep, they took the celebration through a musical journey through Afropop, Dancehall, Soca, Afrohouse, hip-hop, reggae.
On the second floor of the Castle, HAPE, CISP (Comitato Internazionale per il Sviluppo dei Popoli) and Francesco Meliciani inaugurated the collective foto exhibition “HAPEando por allá”, extracting images from HAPE’s musical encounters and cultural connections between Cuba, Europe and Africa.
