Gibara, Cuba, 1 July 2018
In the picturesque sea side town of Gibara, HAPE inaugurated the 14th edition of Gibara’s International Film Festival, overseen by Cuban actor Jorge Perugorria and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, the Cuban Institute of the Arts and Film Industry and the Government of Holguin.
Funded by renowned Director Humberto Solás and originally known as the Festival de Cine Pobre, the festival remains an alternative to larger international film festivals, ignoring labels and focusing on the celebration of the creativity, artistry, and technical excellence of filmmakers, actors, and technicians around the world.
Following Silvio Rodriguez’ concert, HAPE took the stage of Plaza de Silva. Chief Boima, a Sierra Leonean-American music producer, DJ, writer, and advocate for music-fueled digital youth cultures from around the world, took the town of Gibara through a musical voyage across the 7 seas in the presence of film personalities such as Benicio Del Toro.
As Gibara’s main square became a dance floor, Havana’s DJ Landeep followed suit closing the night.
